The British summer is almost finally upon us, if the weather forecast is anything to go by, and whilst we certainly aren't complaining, we need to be mindful of the dangers of working in the sun all day. Here are some top tips to keep you safe this summer.
Whilst we may be stating the obvious, many of us get caught up in the job in hand and forget the importance of appying sun lotion around every 2 hours. Nothing is worth ending up with sun stroke, so bear this in mind especially if you have fairer skin once the temperatures start to heat up.
Drink plenty of water
Drinking plenty of water whilst working in the sun is vital. It is of the utmost importance that you remain hydrated. Fizzy drinks are often a go to on site but please be mindful that they provide little in the way of hydration.
A big healthy breakfast is key when working in the sun. A nutritious feast to kick start the day will leave your body with enough fuel to last til lunch time. Choose wisely when it comes to your lunch - food that is high in calories and saturated fats should be avoided as you don't want your body to be processing high calorie foods whilst you're trying to work in these conditions.
