In Rotherham there are a huge 1,400 voluntary groups across the city, all providing various activities and opportunities for those of all ages. The people that run these groups have been volunteering for many years and these awards help recognise the hard work people in the community do.
How do the awards work? Over the next ten weeks you will have the chance to nominate the people you believe have gone above and beyond the call of duty in selflessly helping out others. Those you believe deserve an award.
Those making the final shortlist will be celebrated at an awards night in April when the winners of the ten categories will be announced.
Advertiser editor Andrew Mosley said: "There are so many people, featured in our papers week-in, week-out, who devote their precious time to making sure people who might be isolated, may be unable to get out and about, may lack confidence, may be suffering, not only continue to live among our communities, but prosper.
"We want to recognise these people and put them in the spotlight to show others that, despite the negative image Rotherham may have in some quarters, it is a place packed with people we can be proud of, people who care about their community, their neighbours and the town we live in.
"We want as many people as possible to nominate those who make us proud to live in Rotherham."
Do you know someone who fits the bill? Someone who goes above and beyond in the community to help others? Check out the list of categories below and head over to the website to make your nominations. We're sponsoring the Community Contribution award, which recognises an individual or a group who have given their time to improve elements of their local community, but there are many more that you can also get involved with!
