This National Apprenticeship Week say hello to Lili Blake, Branch Sales Apprentice

This week is National Apprenticeship Week. A week to celebrate Apprentices and the effect that they have on any workplace.

We're very proud here at James Burrell that Apprentices form part of our workforce across many of our branches. In fact, we currently have a total of 15 apprentices working here and beginning their careers. It has been something ingrained in the companies vision for many years, as almost a quarter of our workforce either are or have been apprentices or trainees; including 2 Senior Managers who joined us when they left school.

We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you to one of our current Apprentices, Lili, who works as a Branch Sales Apprentice at our Morpeth branch. Have a read below and find out what her days involve.

What does your day involve?

My day starts at 8am, once I have arrived I have a variety of jobs to complete; for example, serving customers, answering the phone and making sure the shop is all stocked and merchandised. As my job role is apprentice branch sales I deal with many different questions and enquiries, taking orders and making sure my customers have a good customer service experience. I give 100% attention to every customer that walks through the door as I know James Burrell's reputation is very important.

My day also consists of invoicing, putting orders through and helping customers with whatever they may need help with. There are no two days which are the same, along with my branch duties I have to work alongside other departments that are involved in the business; such as accounts and operations. I work with transport to make sure deliveries go out promptly and to make sure we have met the customer needs. When I get good feedback and compliments it makes me feel good as I know there's another satisfied customer, and that helps the branch grow.

What's your favourite thing about the company?

My favourite thing about working for James Burrell is when I first started everyone in the company made me feel so welcome and they were all so helpful. As an apprentice it was important for me to feel comfortable which meant I wasn't afraid to ask if I needed help or if I had any questions, this built my confidence up a lot with serving customers alone and answering the phone. At first I didn't really know much about the products and now it is different as I know more about different products and can help more customers and advise them what they need or what could be a better alternative. Working here is great and I love my job, it's just like working within a big family! Everyone helps each other and no one is left out, also another great thing is if someone within your branch can not help you there is always someone you can call and ask for help whatever the matter is.

What would be your perfect weekend plans?

I enjoy horse riding and playing football. I'm an active person so I like to get out and do a lot of exercise. I like going to the gym and going running. I also enjoy socialising with my friends.
