What is an average day at work like for you?
My day begins at 7am and once I arrive I have a variety of jobs throughout the day, from serving customers at the counter to answering the phone. I receive general enquiries from customers which means I first have to request quotes from many different suppliers and then raise the customer's order. My day also consists of invoicing, helping customers with their current projects and making sure they know about all our special offers! I also work with other departments within the company, in particular with accounts and purchasing, making sure everything runs smoothly. Building firm relationships with customers is an important part of my day working here. It's great to have a chat with them realising you have so much common ground from interests such as discussing the latest football match to holidays past and present, talking about pets and general conversation. It makes the branch at times a little social hub which creates a great atmosphere and no two days are the same. Our customers all have great personalities which makes the working dat pleasant and interesting.
What's the best part about working for James Burrell?
The best part about working at James Burrell is it's a family run business. This is reflected by their investment in the staff working here. The majority of my colleagues are long serving knowledgeable people and there is always someone who will help, answer a question, advise and share information. There is a great feeling of working in a company that has long term ambition, stability and investment which is mirrored in the time I have been with the company opening two new branches and refurbishing the Blyth branch.

What are your perfect weekend plans?
My perfect weekend plans would consist of a lie in and no football! But with two boys and five nephews there's very little chance of that ever happening! So most weekends consist of getting together as a family having lunch, going to watch Blyth Spartans, along with watching the kids play their matches and watching the football on T.V. If I'm ever at a loose end, there's always plenty of washing to do with strips and training kits.
