World Mental Health Day 2024

Today marks World Mental Health Day.

It's important to shine a light on such a crucial day within the calendar, to bring awareness to everyone about just how important it is to think about your mental health and the mental health of those around you.

This year's theme is 'It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace' Time to eliminate the stigmas that surround speaking up about your mental health and encourage an open workplace which not only encourages but helps those who are struggling with mental health issues.

82% of builders in the UK suffer from mental health problems due to work related issues (research by ironmongery direct and electrical direct) A shocking statistic but one which is prevalent in our society due to the extreme burnout and combined stresses of everything from the cost-of-living crisis, to the rising cost of materials.

By addressing the increasing burnout people are feeling caused by the toll of their mental health, we can help to create a much more productive and fulfilled workplace. A workplace where everyone's mental health is thriving, is a workplace that will flourish together.

We're extremely fortunate at James Burrell to have several Mental Health first aiders, available any day of the week to speak to however our staff need. A core piece of our mental health structure and one which is valued by so many people. It allows our team the opportunity to speak to someone confidentially if they feel they have no one eles to turn to.

So, this World Mental Health Day, let's try to help those around us. Try and look out for the key signs of burnout and offer guidance and support to those who may need or want it.

Head to the mental health-uk.org website for a whole host of helpful hints and tips of ways you can take care of your own mental health and how you can support those around you.
